A bus carrying approx 60 members who belong to "ISMAILI SHIA" community was showered with bullets indiscriminately on Wednesday in a port city which is Karachi of Pakistan.
43 members including women were killed on the spot and few people survived with heavy injuries.
Approx 8 gunmen followed the bus and carried out the attach near Safoora chowk of Karachi, a eye-witness told to Dawn.com. The gunmen escaped after attacking the bus carrying the "ISMAILI SHIA" community members.
Police Chief, Ghulam Haider Jamali told, the bus was on its way to a place of worship of ISMAILI SHIA community when the unknown group attacked the bus and showered the bullets.
Jamali said that, gunmen boarded the bus and shot the Shia community members in their heads. It is also said that there are 60 shells found at the place where the incident happened.
The people who were injured in the incident succumbed while being taken to the hospital, Pakistani media reported. The condition of the injured seems to be critical.
Police and Paramilitary forces cordoned off the site of the attack. Pakistani Ismaili Shia community members have been targeted many times by the extremists and numerous people lost their lives.
Taliban and other sunni communities consider Ismaili Shia community as Apostates. So far no group has claimed the responsibility of the attack and incident.
